His responsibilities have included managing the school’s budget, setting financial priorities, and ensuring high financial performance across the entity.

Among Metzenberg’s many accomplishments, he helped spearhead a multi-year endeavor to further integrate financially and operationally OHSU Hospital with the school’s research, education, and clinical care missions. This effort involved working collaboratively with OHSU’s dean, hospital CEO, and hospital CFO to streamline the funds flow model in order to improve performance and enhance collaboration across the combined entity. As Director of Finance at OHSU School of Medicine, a position he held from 2007 to 2019, Metzenberg oversaw the school of medicines $1.1 billion operating budget as well as managed central department budgets, including those for finance, IT, human resources, research, and graduate and undergraduate medical education.

As Stanford School of Medicine’s Associate Dean and CFO, Metzenberg will draw from this deep experience to oversee the School of Medicine’s financial affairs, serve as senior adviser regarding fiscal matters, and collaborate with university and hospital senior finance and administration leaders on policy, among other responsibilities.

I look forward to welcoming Allen, his wife, Tomoko, and children, Erika and Yuuki, to the Stanford family this May. In his free time, he enjoys camping and the great outdoors.

I want to thank the many who led an exhaustive search to fill this position, including Anitra Bowers, search committee co-chairs Mary Hawn, MD, and Niraj Sehgal, MD, and the other members of our search committee.
