Ronald Dalman, MD, the Walter Clifford Chidester and Elsa Rooney Chidester Professor of Surgery and Chief of Vascular Surgery, has been appointed associate dean for market development.

In this new role, Dr. Dalman will serve as the faculty dyad for Stanford Health Care market and business development and will work with leadership and clinical chairs, chiefs, and staff to identify and optimize network and affiliation agreements across the region to achieve the goals of the Integrated Strategic Plan.

Dr. Dalman joined the Stanford University School of Medicine faculty in 1992. Prior to assuming leadership of the Division of Vascular Surgery in 2005, he served as vascular section chief at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. The Vascular Division comprises 18 medical and surgical faculty providing diagnostic and therapeutic services at eight locations in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. As vascular chief, Dr. Dalman also co-directs the Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Destination Service Line and serves as Chair of the CVH Quality Council.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Dalman serves on the Steering Committee for the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVI) and as co-PI of the CVI's T32 training grant in vascular biology. Dr. Dalman's research laboratory studies the pathophysiology of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) disease, and is actively engaged in identifying and validating new treatment measures for AAA. Dr. Dalman has received 19 years of continuous NIH funding as PI or co-PI on AAA-related clinical and translational research studies.

Nationally, Dr. Dalman is the current vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), the world's largest and oldest professional organization dedicated exclusively to improving vascular health. In subsequent years, Dr. Dalman will accede to president-elect (2019) and president of the SVS in 2020.
