"Open Source Wellness has a dedication to fully supporting the surrounding community through a democratized standpoint. The leaders in this program are all so caring for the surrounding community, as well as supportive of student mentorship. They have such innovative methods of reaching out to underserved populations have been really able to branch out to help populations at FQHCs and primary care clinics. Dr. Chern has additionally played the key role in the implementation of the program at FMA."

"Noha Aboelata, MD, Founder and CEO of Roots Community Health Center, ​has devoted her career to uplifting those impacted by systemic inequities and poverty Through Roots, founded in East Oakland, she has pioneered the delivery of culturally responsive “Whole Health,” and championed the integration of navigation, empowerment, social enterprise, nutritional, pediatric, legal, and mobile health services to address the myriad needs of over 10,000 patients."

"Emergency medicine physicians have been hit perhaps harder than any other medical professional during COVID. Yet Dr. Newberry, in addition to practicing as an EM physician, has led an incredible group of students in doing community-engaged work on IPV throughout 2020, mentoring us in multiple projects to help vulnerable communities. Her mentorship, compassion, and willingness to help us through any challenge, no matter the time or the demands on her (in a pandemic!) are unparalleled."

"Dr. Jonathan Shaw is a practicing family physician at Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto, and a health services researcher at Stanford and the VA Palo Alto. With a passion for addressing social determinants of health in under-served populations, his work and evaluation efforts include homeless veterans outreach, improving care coordination for medically complex veterans, and building relationships with various community organizations, including Roots."

"Dr. Bruce provided invaluable mentorship each step of this project. While attempting to tackle a very complex and multi-faceted issue, Dr. Bruce  always prioritized providing the support and guidance I needed to ensure I was also gaining new skills from the project. Furthermore,  Dr. Bruce  truly embodied the ethos of community-centered work, providing me with a lasting example of how to achieve significant community-based work in my future career."

"Tia was instrumental in guiding my community partner and I through an evaluation process that was aligned with our circumstances. Tia taught us backward design, the creation of logic models, open-ended interviewing strategies, and integrating contemplative practices into our own lives to enhance our presence as facilitators and skills as program evaluators. Tia allowed me to alow use my course final assignment to conduct an evaluation and uplift my community-engaged work."
