What Do I Do After Asking? | Therapeutic Intervention

Outpatient Medical Care

First Step in Seeking Treatment

For most youth who vape (nicotine or cannabis), the first step in seeking treatment is outpatient medical care.

Pediatricians and primary care clinicians can screen and assess if more specialized treatment is needed.

Working with a Pyschotherapist

Outpatient psychiatric care and working with a psychotherapist. Psychiatrists can assess the mental health needs of youth who vape and determine if there are underlying depression or anxiety symptoms that have resulted in an individual self-medicating with vaping either nicotine or cannabis.

Many psychotherapists are able to meet with patients on a weekly or biweekly basis on behavioral strategies and skills that can help to reduce and eliminate vaping use

Intensive Outpatient Programs, "IOPs"

Intensive Outpatient Programs also known as “IOPs” are treatment and support programs that offer group and individual therapy for several hours per week. Educational sessions and workshops, group and individual therapy sessions are scheduled throughout the course of treatment.

Youth are expected to adhere to the strict structure of the program. These programs are often scheduled during after school hours and typically have parental involvement and sessions for parents.
