Symposium
An annual opportunity for medical students to highlight their scholarly work in health humanities research through presentations and posters, as well as showcase artistic talents through performances of song, dance, music, poetry, film and exhibits of artwork and photography. The Medicine & Muse symposium also features a key note speaker. Speakers in the past have included authors Malcolm Gladwell, Khaled Hosseini, Perri Klass and Anne Lamott.

Storytelling and Writing 
Free writing workshops and retreats are held for doctors, residents, medical students and other health professionals. 

Voice of a Physician
This is a new section that features the voices of physicians as they navigate the intersections of social change, technology, care, pandemic, and themselves. 

Pegasus Physician Writers
Pegasus Physician Writers, along with the Stanford Medicine and the Muse Program, hold readings and other events to promote creativity, reflection and discussion on areas such as the context of medicine, the meaning of doctoring, health care, health and illness. 

Literature & Medicine Dinner and Discussion series
This series is designed to provide an opportunity for physicians to come together and share a meal while discussing works of literature. 

Music Network
Exploring the connection between Music and Medicine through various events and conferences, including the “Music and the Brain” series sponsored by Dr. Jonathan Berger of the Stanford Department of Music.

Stuck@Home Concert
Medicine & the Muse was in the process of assembling the first ever School of Medicine Symphony Concert. When Covid-19 befell our community, Executive Director Jacqueline Genovese and Dr. Bryant Lin joined forces to launch a concert experience online. Each month during the pandemic, members from the Stanford Medicine community come together on Thursday nights to perform a multitude of artistic expressions including playing the cello, singing musicals, doing magic and much more-- on Zoom.

Program in Bioethics & Film
Founded in 1998 by award-winning filmmaker and physician, Maren Monsen, the Program in Bioethics and Film creates films and education programs that touch people emotionally and intellectually to cause them to think deeply about important issues in healthcare and improve care.

Anastomosis
Anastomosis, Stanford University School of Medicine’s humanities and literary journal, formerly H&P for over ten years.

Unmasked: Voices from Healthcare
This is a new section featuring the various voices in healthcare: from nurses to social workers to chaplains to respiratory therapists and other medical professionals who care for us.

Paul Kalanithi Writing Contest
Paul Kalanithi was a physician writer and neurosurgery resident at Stanford University. In the final years of his training, he was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. His memoir, When Breath Becomes Air, beautifully chronicles his reflections on living with illness and the meaning of legacy. The Paul Kalanithi Writing Award was created in his memory. This annual contest re-opens each September. 

Frankenstein@200
Was a year-long series of academic courses and programs including a film festival, a play, a lecture series and an international Health Humanities Conference that will examine the numerous moral, scientific, sociological, ethical and spiritual dimensions of the work, and why Dr. Frankenstein and his monster still capture the moral imagination today.

Frankenstein@200: 2018 International Health Humanities Consortium Conference
A celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein through an exploration of medically-based ethical dilemmas and an examination of the relevance of Frankenstein in moral imagination today.
