For Session 1 of the 2023 program, we will have limited on-campus housing options available to students 18 years and older. This option will be available to participants on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Medical students, both U.S. and international, are not eligible to apply for Stanford CSI.

Yes, international students can apply. Stanford University is not able to sponsor visas for the purpose of this certificate program.

Yes, home-schooled students can apply to this program.

COVID-19 Exception: Due to limited testing availability for some students because of the ongoing pandemic, standardized scores are not required for the 2023 application process. However, the are encouraged when available. 

Who is ecouraged to have test scores:

• All students in the United States in grades 10, 11, or 12 are encouraged to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI application.
• All undergraduates in their first year of college are encouraged to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI applications.
  

Who is NOT required to have test scores:.

• All undergraduates in their second year of college or later are NOT required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI applications.
• All international students are NOT required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI application.
  

If you are an applicant who has taken one of the tests but has not received your scores, please upload a Word document or PDF with a brief statement stating why you do not have scores and when you expect to receive your scores. You will need to submit delayed test scores to stanfordmedcsi@stanford.edu as soon as you receive the score reports. 

If you are in your second undergraduate year or beyond, then you do not have to provide your test scores.

No. Stanford CSI is a very competitive program. Every year we receive more qualified applicants than we can accept.

Once the student has been accepted into the program, the spot is guaranteed as soon as the full payment for the program has been received.

The application fee of $95 is nonrefundable.

If applicable, the housing fee is nonrefundable unless the spot is filled.

Our Stanford Clinical Summer Internship Program aims to create a transparent and fair policy for refunds. Since we have very limited seats in our competitive program, it is often difficult or impossible to find qualified students to replace a student who chooses to withdraw from the program after acceptance. Please make sure that you are able to attend our summer program before making your enrollment decision. If you enroll and later find you cannot attend our program and would like to request a refund, we ask that you first send us a letter forfeiting your place in our program. At that point, we will do our best to find a replacement for your spot. If we are able to find a replacement student, we will refund your tuition less an administrative fee equal to 20% of tuition. If we are unable to find a replacement, we will refund 50% of the program fee till June 1, 2023. No refund request will be accepted after June 1, 2023. No refund or discount will be given for early departures once the program has begun.

Refunds requests must be made formally via email to stanfordmedcsi@stanford.edu. Please allow 2-3 business days for the review of your request. 

Yes, unofficial high school and college transcripts will be accepted.

The TB Test requirment only applies to students participating in an on-site session. Participants in virtual sessions do not have a TB Test requirement.

Stanford CSI is a clinically oriented internship and students may at times come in contact with patients during case studies (eg transplant patients on immune suppressant medications), standardized patients, clinicians and nurses, so it is important to know that they are healthy and do not have any communicable diseases, in particular tuberculosis. Documentation of a negative TB test (Mantoux or Quantiferon) within the preceding year is therefore required. If you have received the BCG tuberculosis vaccine, you will send need to send in a negative Quantiferon.

Yes.  Stanford University requires that our participants are 16 years of age by the start date of the program.

The below listed immunizations are only required for students participating in an on-site session. Participants in virtual sessions do not have an immunization requirement.

Accepted applicants are required to provide a copy of the following immunizations with registration to attend CSI (no exceptions):

• One dose of TdaP between age 11-12
• 3 Hepatitis B 
• 2 Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
• 2 Varicella (chicken pox) immunizations - or MD confirmation of illness, or laboratory evidence of illness (antibodies)
• Meningococcal vaccine at 16
• TB test - evidence of immunity within a year prior to start of the internship via PPD/Mantoux skin test or TB Quantiferon antibody test (is not altered by previous BCG vaccination). If the skin test is positive, either a negative chest Xray or negative Quantiferon or proof of treatment is required. 

Yes, the students get to keep the white coat, scrubs and the stethoscopes after the program is over.

No, students do not receive any grades or credits for this program.

All students will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the program. The certificate will be issued on the last day of the program. Students are required to attend all days with the exception of a day for illness or for emergencies.

Access to a computer or laptop with reliable internet access is required for attending Session 2 of the 2023 program. Tablets (such as i-Pads) are not recommend. A laptop is suggested but not required for Session 1 of the 2023 program.

Professional attire or scrubs are required during program hours as there will be interaction with physicians, patients, residents and medical students (no jeans, T- shirts, tank tops or cutoffs). Scrubs will be required on 5-6 days during activities such as dissections, suturing and anatomy lab; students will be notified ahead of time.

Students will be provided with white coats, scrubs and stethoscopes. They are expected to have their white coats and stethoscopes during sessions with patients.

For students participating in Session 1 lunch will be provided daily. For students participating in Session 2, no lunch wll be provided. 

Lunch for Session 1 will be provided through Stanford Dining. We will request students to share dietary needs prior to the session start and will do our best to accomodate. Glueten-free and vegan options can both be offered.
